Remedial Massage in Yokine, Perth

Your shoulders live up around your ears. There's a knot under your shoulder blade that's been there for months. Your neck won't let go after another week of deadlines.

You've tried stretching. You've tried a foam roller. It eases for a day, then it's back.

At Vitality Chiropractic in Yokine, our remedial massage therapists, Michelle and Chikako, find the tight spots and work them properly, in 45 or 90-minute sessions, with private parking at the door.

What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage is targeted, hands-on massage for tight, sore and overworked muscles. Your therapist assesses where you're holding tension, then uses techniques chosen for your body on the day: deep tissue work, trigger points, stretching and more.

Why people book it

Most people come to us with one or more of these:

  • Tight neck and shoulders from long days at a screen
  • A knot under the shoulder blade that won't go away
  • Lower back stiffness after sitting or driving
  • Tension headaches that start in the neck
  • Sore, tight muscles after training or sport
  • Feeling wound up and unable to switch off

The real cost: you

Tension creeps up on you. You stop noticing how high your shoulders sit, how shallow your breathing is, how you rub your neck in every meeting.

Then it shows up everywhere: a headache by 3pm, a short fuse at home, a night where you can't get comfortable.

You're not just carrying tight muscles. You're carrying the whole week. Take an hour to let it go. Live alive. Live you.

How our therapists work

Michelle and Chikako don't just rub where it hurts. They look at how you sit, stand and move, then work on the muscles that are actually holding the tension.

Chikako brings more than ten years of Japanese remedial massage training. Michelle also offers dry needling and cupping, and often combines them with remedial massage when they suit you.

And because they work alongside our chiropractors, if your therapist thinks a chiropractor should look at your spine, or the other way round, we'll tell you.

Try this right now

Sit tall and slowly drop your right ear towards your right shoulder. Then the left. Is one side much tighter? Now gently squeeze the muscle between your neck and shoulder on each side. Is one side tender or ropey?

That's where the tension is sitting. It's a good place for your therapist to start.

What happens in a session

Your first visit starts with a short chat about where it hurts, your health history and what you want from the session. Then a quick check of posture and movement to find the areas that need the most work.

What your session will include

Here's what to expect:

  • A short health history and chat about your goals
  • A posture and movement check
  • Hands-on remedial massage, with pressure adjusted to suit you
  • Dry needling or cupping with Michelle, if you'd like it and it suits you
  • Simple stretches and tips to use between sessions
  • Health fund claim on the spot with HICAPS, if you're eligible

Our promise to you

Everyone responds differently to massage, so we won't promise a particular result. What we promise is skilled, careful hands, pressure that suits you, and honest advice on what will help most, including when you'd be better off seeing someone else.

How to get started

  1. Book online

Pick a time that suits you. New clients pay $85 for their first 45-minute massage when booking online. No referral needed.

  2. Bring what you have

Your health fund card, and any scans or reports if you have them.

  3. Your first visit

A short chat about where it hurts and what you want from the session. Then it's straight into your massage. No X-rays. You undress to your comfort level, usually down to your underwear, and you stay covered with towels the whole time.

Meet the whole team

Easing desk tension between sessions

  1. Set your screen at eye level so your head isn't pushed forward.
  2. Every 30 minutes, roll your shoulders back and down five times.
  3. Take three slow breaths into your belly when you notice your shoulders creeping up.
  4. Stand up and walk during phone calls.
  5. Drink water through the day, especially after a deep massage.

When to see someone

Massage isn't the right first step if you have any of the following. See your GP first:

See a GP or go to emergency first if you have:

  • Sudden, severe or unexplained pain
  • Pain after a fall or accident
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness in an arm or leg
  • Swelling, redness or warmth in one leg (possible blood clot)
  • Fever or feeling unwell

Book an assessment if:

  • Your neck, shoulders or back are tight and sore from work
  • You carry tension or stress in your body
  • You'd like to recover better from training

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between remedial and relaxation massage?

Remedial massage targets specific areas of tension or injury and can use firmer pressure. Relaxation massage uses flowing strokes and lighter pressure to help you unwind. We offer both.

Does remedial massage hurt?

It can involve deeper pressure than a relaxation massage, and tight areas may feel tender. It should never be painful. Tell your therapist and they'll adjust the pressure.

Should I book 45 or 90 minutes?

45 minutes suits one or two areas, such as neck and shoulders or lower back. 90 minutes suits whole-body tension, or if you'd like the full session to switch off.

Do you offer dry needling and cupping?

Yes. Michelle offers dry needling and cupping, often as part of a remedial massage. See our dry needling and cupping page.

Can I claim massage on my health fund?

Many private health funds cover remedial massage under extras. We have HICAPS, so you can claim on the spot if you're eligible. Your rebate depends on your fund and level of cover.

How much does a massage cost?

New clients pay $85 for a 45-minute first massage when booking online. A 90-minute first session is $150. See our pricing page for returning client prices.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly online or by phone.

Can I get an appointment today?

Check our online booking for the next available time, or call (08) 9201 0566. Michelle is often booked about two weeks ahead, so book early if you'd like her.

Can I see a chiropractor and a massage therapist?

Yes. Our massage therapists work alongside our chiropractors, so your care can be joined up. Many clients see both.
